8 Tips to Get Your Boat Ready For the Coming Season!

Taking your boat out of winter storage requires careful preparation to ensure it's ready for the water. Here are 8 tips that we think will be helpful:

  1. Inspect the Hull: Check for any damage or cracks in the hull that may have occurred during storage. Clean the bottom and remove any barnacles or debris.

  2. Check the Engine: Before starting the engine, change the oil and replace the fuel filter. Inspect the battery, ensuring it's charged and properly connected, and check the coolant levels.

  3. Examine the Propeller: Make sure the propeller is in good condition, free of dings, and securely attached.

  4. Test the Electrical System: Verify all lights, gauges, and other electrical components are working properly. If you haven’t done so already, replace any corroded fuses or wires.

  5. Check the Safety Equipment: Ensure all life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are still in good condition and up to date.

  6. Clean the Interior: Air out the boat and clean the interior, especially any areas that might have accumulated mildew or mold during storage.

  7. Check the Trailer: Inspect the trailer for tire pressure, brakes, and lights to ensure it's ready for the boat launch.

  8. Test the Bilge Pump: Make sure the bilge pump is functioning properly and that the boat is free of any water that may have accumulated during storage.

Taking these steps before hitting the water will ensure your boat is safe, functional, and ready for a smooth start to the season!
